Dzikwa Trust ensures education & wellbeing for orphans and vulnerable children in Dzivarasekwa. Support activities have been on-going for over 30 years. A critical component of children’s wellbeing is a daily hot meal from Monday to Saturday. Over the years, Dzikwa Kitchen has provided close to 2,5 million meals. The total cost of feeding 400 children is USD 240/day, or USD 6,000/month. A hot lunch plate, costing USD 0.60 includes sadza, vegetable relish, sugar beans and meat (chicken, beef, dried mince, sausages) or kapenta.
FEEDING SUPPLIES RUNNING OUT
“Dzikwa Trust Board of Trustees resolved on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024, to close the Dzikwa Kitchen, due to lack of general funding and dedicated funding for the nutrition of Dzikwa Trust children and underprivileged community children. The closure period is from Monday, November 4 , 2024, until Tuesday, January 10th, 2025. Resources received so far in 2024 for the purpose of nutrition have been exhausted by the end of October. In case Dzikwa Trust receives dedicated funding for the nutrition support in 2024, in cash or in-kind, the Dzikwa Kitchen is ready to open and re-start serving both Dzikwa-children and community child beneficiaries”.
