Reforestration and Food
Community Outreach
In 2021-2022, Dzikwa Trust implemented a 5-hectare maize growing project with 17 peri-urban farmers from Dzivarasekwa. The project was sponsored by SuperFert Fertilizer company and shared the crop between the DZ farmers and Dzikwa Trust 60/40.
For 2022-2023, Dzikwa Trust has received a USD 50,000 grant from the UNDP GEF SGP facility, to enhance food production and safeguard the environment, natural and agro-ecosystems, and biodiversity in Dzivarasekwa. Dzikwa Trust implements the project in cooperation with the local community.
Reforestration and Food
The project comprises:
- A fishpond with a five-kW solar power system
- Two orchards, one comprising 0.5 hectares and the other 1.0 hectares
- An apiary with 18 beehives
- A vegetable and a herbal garden for demonstrations
- Water tank and irrigation systems
- Reforestation with 3,000 fever and leopard trees
- Enhancing the Marimba River riverbanks
- A 1.5 km nature trail for environmental education
